A 6" long cut from your material should be delivered to our facility. A sub-size specimen can be obtained from samples as short as 3.5". The remaining material will be kept on-site for 30 days unless otherwise arranged.
Tensile testing requires a test piece to be machined from sample material. The test piece will be pulled apart by a hydraulic tester that communicates with a desktop computer. Extensiometers are measuring devices used to determine at what point the material begins to yield. The tester continues to pull until the piece breaks in two at its ultimate tensile strength. The broken sample can then be evaluated to determine elongation and reduction.
